Lawyers for Conrad Murray, the physician convicted in Michael Jackson’s death, have lodged an official complaint with the Sheriff’s Department over the conditions of his incarceration.
In a letter Wednesday, the attorneys said Murray, 58, is suffering from vein problems in his legs and shoulder pain due to the small size of his jail cell in a special housing unit for high-profile inmates.
The doctor, who is 6 feet 5, is held in a 5-by-7-foot cell, except for a brief exercise period once a week, according to the letter.
“Dr. Murray acknowledges that his notoriety may involve the necessity for isolation for his safety. Death or injury at the hands of another prisoner, however, is no worse than a slow death caused by a loss of circulations and atrophy resulting from inhuman confinement of a large man in a tiny space,” wrote lawyers J. Michael Flanagan and Valerie Wass.
Murray, serving two years for involuntary manslaughter in the pop star’s death, is due to be released in October 2013.
A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
