Lisa Marie Presley's been separated from her estranged husband for nearly 5 years and says she's ready to start a new chapter ... so she wants the judge to step in and declare her single.

In new legal docs, obtained by TMZ, Lisa Marie says her ex Michael Lockwood refuses to agree to terminate their marriage ... despite the fact she filed for divorce way back in June 2016.

She says there's no chance of ever saving the relationship, so she's requesting a bifurcation -- which means separating marital status from other divorce issues. Basically, let's be single now, and divvy up our stuff later.

One other big issue has already been settled -- LMP scored a big win in 2018 when the judge ruled she doesn't have to pay Lockwood spousal support based on their 2007 post-nuptial agreement.

It remains to be seen if he'll try to challenge or get around any of those rulings going forward, but Presley's asking the judge to settle the marital status issue ASAP ... "so that I can move forward with my life."

Lisa Marie Presley has finally obtained a decision in the drawn-out custody battle over her 12-year-old twin daughters with ex-husband Michael Lockwood. Just recently, according to several reports, the 52-year-old singer and Elvis Presley progeny was granted joint custody of the two girls.

Following her 2006 marriage to Lockwood, Presley gave birth to the fraternal twins, Harper Vivienne Ann and Finley Aaron Love Lockwood, in 2008. In 2016, Presley filed for divorce from the fellow musician and record producer. But the couple's custody situation regarding their children together only came to a head over the past few months. It started over the summer in Los Angeles Superior Court, as MyNewsLA reported.

Following her 2006 marriage to Lockwood, Presley gave birth to the fraternal twins, Harper Vivienne Ann and Finley Aaron Love Lockwood, in 2008. In 2016, Presley filed for divorce from the fellow musician and record producer. But the couple's custody situation regarding their children together only came to a head over the past few months. It started over the summer in Los Angeles Superior Court, as MyNewsLA reported.


As the custody proceedings progressed, the tragic July death of Benjamin Keough, Presley's 27-year-old son from another marriage, also played into it. Per the Daily Mail, Lockwood argued that the death of her only son could send Presley back into drug and alcohol abuse. (Presley also has another daughter, the 31-year old actress and model Riley Keough, with ex-husband Danny Keough.)

"Lisa Marie Presley's son shot and killed himself in her home (Although she was not there at the time)," Lockwood states in court documents. "With all due sympathy and respect, this creates a new and unaddressed twofold problem: the safety of the children and the greater likelihood of [Presley] to relapse into drug and alcohol dependency."

There was also the matter of firearms that Presley purportedly kept in her home. That, combined with the fallout of Benjamin's death, prompted Lockwood to seek full custody of his two children with Presley.

"The children told (him) that (LMP) walked around the house with a gun in her hand in 2017," Lockwood's statement continues. "There was at least one gun on the premises of her home at the time of her son's suicide and it is unclear where the gun was kept or whether Finley and/or Harper might have access to this gun or others. Thus, there is a significantly higher risk to the safety of the children which would ordinarily justify 100 percent physical custody to (me) at this time in such circumstances."

According to a final judgment, however, the court found that the couple's squabbling likely affected the children more than Presley's personal issues. Barring an unexplained "medical emergency" the singer suffered in November, as reported by The Sun, a judge found that Presley's health has since turned around. That led to the decision of joint custody to be shared by Presley and Lockwood.

"The court finds that the conflict between the parties and their communication difficulties have had a detrimental (effect on) the children's best interests," declares Justice Dianna J. Gould-Saltman, according to Showbiz CheatSheet. The judge adds that Presley, "during the relevant times, was so abusing drugs that her ability to interpret and recall events accurately was distorted and untrustworthy. It is to her credit that she has since overcome her addiction."

LISA Marie Presley's ex Michael Lockwood is "desperate to remarry" and does not want to save their relationship - despite stalling on signing divorce papers, The Sun can exclusively reveal.

Elvis' only daughter, who filed for divorce from the musician in June 2016, was granted 50/50 custody earlier this year after a drawn out court battle with her ex over their 12-year-old twin girls, Harper and Finley.


According to court papers seen by The Sun, the 53-year-old is now requesting a bifurcation from a judge in LA to end their marriage - amid claims published by TMZ that he won't let her "move on."

But an insider insisted he is "100 percent over her" and ready to marry his fiancee, Stephanie Hobgood, whom he's been dating for four years, although he's concerned about signing the papers too early.

The source said: "Michael is done, but the final custody judgement has not yet been signed and they are still working through issues, he wants to get that out the way first after spending years in court with Lisa.

"He has no objection over signing the papers once everything is sorted out, he is desperate to marry Stephanie and move on with his life, any suggestion he wants to save their relationship is laughable.


"He can't file for child support until the document is signed, so he wants to put that first, and they are still fighting over belongings, there are a lot of other things at play here.

"If he signs straight away he's worried there will be other issues down the line, the judgement was meant to be signed in December but the whole process has been dragged out."

“He never expected to find love at a time like this, but Stephanie has stood by him every step of the way and they are crazy about each other,” a source claimed at the time.

“Michael is very traditional and wrote a letter to her father to ask for her hand in marriage. The family loves him, and gave their blessing."

He took his girlfriend on a date night and wrote a loving message on a place mat along with the words "Will you marry me?" before presenting it.

“She sat there in silence for a while as he got down on one knee, she then realized he was serious and said yes,” the source added.

The Sun's insider said Lockwood is "thrilled" after being granted 50/50 custody and sees it as a triumph.

He feared he would only get limited time with his daughters, after his ex claimed to have found inappropriate photos of children on his computer, according to court documents.

Police previously seized some of Michael’s equipment - but no charges were ever brought.

His lawyers at the time said the claims were "a one-sided, inaccurate version of the facts” and Lockwood "denies the truth of what Ms. Presley chose to put in the press."

According to a report on mynewsla.com, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Dianna Gould-Saltman ruled in December: "The court finds that the children are not at risk of harm with their father."

Presley's past drug problems were addressed in the judge's ruling, as she wrote: "[Presley], during the relevant times, was so abusing drugs that her ability to interpret and recall events accurately was distorted and untrustworthy.


"It is to her credit that she has since overcome her addiction and continues to take steps to ensure her sobriety."

Gould-Saltman said she "does not have concern that [Presley] is currently abusing drugs," but she was ordered by the court to undertake random monthly drug tests for a year.

Lisa Marie Presley & Michael Lockwood Legally Divorced Nearly 5 Years After Split


Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Lockwood are legally divorced, reports Us Weekly. The exes’ court battle, however, is far from over.

While they received a dissolution of marriage and are now single, they still have child support, financial issues, attorneys’ fees, and more to sort out.

Before the bifurcated judgement was handed down, Lockwood’s lawyer told the judge that his client “has no desire to stay married to this woman. He wants to get on with his life. He’s engaged to be married.”

Lockwood has been engaged to Stephanie Hobgood since 2018.

Lisa Marie, the only child of the late Elvis Presley, wed Lockwood in 2006 and filed for divorce nearly five years ago in August 2016. They are parents to 12-year-old twin girls, Finley and Harper.

She was previously married to Danny Keough, and they had two children, Riley, 31, and son Benjamin, 27, who committed suicide last year. Her marriage to Danny lasted from 1988 to 1994. Afterward, she was married to Michael Jackson from 1994 to 1996 and then to Nicolas Cage from 2002 to 2004.

Lisa Marie Presley's wish is about to be a judge's command -- she hopes, because it's the final hurdle to complete a critical step in her divorce.

According to legal docs, obtained by TMZ, the court has granted Lisa's request to bifurcate her divorce -- which means she and Michael Lockwood can change their marital status to single now and deal with other issues, like divvying up assets, later.

So, once the judge signs off on the order, they'll both be officially single.

TMZ broke the story ... Lisa wanted the judge to speed along her divorce case claiming Michael's been dragging his feet since she filed for divorce nearly 5 years ago.

Lisa said she's ready to start a new chapter in her life, and her bifurcation request was one way to get things going.

Despite the slow process, there's one huge issue that's already been hammered out ... a judge ruled back in 2018 she doesn't have to pay Michael any spousal support based on their 2007 postnuptial agreement.
