MJ and Elvis live on: how Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris and Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough are taking Hollywood by storm in American Horror Story and Zola

Riley Keough and Paris Jackson, granddaughter of Elvis Presley and daughter of Michael Jackson respectively, are carving their own famous paths.

When it comes to legendary musicians, few are as iconic as the original King of Pop, Michael Jackson, or the King of Rock n' Roll, Elvis Presley. Decades after their deaths, these two icons' much-loved catalogues of music continue to thrill fans across the globe (and rake in plenty of dough). But that's not the only legacy the two late powerhouses left us with.

In the past month alone, fans of both late icons have been treated to fresh performances of a different kind courtesy of MJ and Elvis' respective offspring. While Michael's daughter Paris Jackson, 23, showed up in new episodes of American Horror Stories, Elvis' granddaughter Riley Keough, 32, is dazzling film critics in new movie Zola.

Perhaps not so surprising when you consider both icons were also actors themselves - Michael appearing in films The Wiz (1978) and Men in Black II (2002), while Elvis was the star power behind a long run of heyday Hollywood capers including Jailhouse Rock (1957), Blue Hawaii (1961) and Viva Las Vegas (1964), starring in a total of 31 titles by most counts.

Here's where things get creepy: before Paris was born, Michael was married to Riley's mother Lisa Marie Presley, which technically made him her stepdad between 1994 and 1996.

Whatever the case, the potential half-sisters that never were are today fast making names for themselves in Hollywood.

Paris Jackson goes horror

a woman taking a selfie: Paris Jackson stars in American Horror Stories.

As a musician, Paris is no stranger to the spotlight, but she only made her acting debut in 2018 with a small role in Gringo. She has since appeared in TV show Star and in an episode of Scream: The TV Series. But it's her central role in the new spin-off season of the American Horror Story franchise which has really turned her into a bona fide actress.

Paris plays teen queen bully Maya, appearing in the first two episodes of American Horror Stories, titled "Rubber (Wo) man" parts one and two. The episodes are a return to the famous Los Angeles murder house from American Horror Story's first season.

Fortunately, Paris was able to reach out to her godfather, Macaulay Culkin, who also stars in the franchise, for advice. "They were very, very uptight about the NDAs and things like that," she said. "But I did figure, he signed an NDA, he's in the AHS family. I feel like if I could tell anyone, it would be him," Paris told E! News.

The "lesbian Jesus" furore

If Paris as a ghost in a murder house isn't outrageous enough, her next screen appearance is already ruffling feathers ahead of its release - a role blasted by conservatives as a "lesbian Jesus" character.

Her highly anticipated new release, Habit, is out on August 20 and co-stars Bella Thorne and Gavin Rossdale. Over 300,000 people have signed a petition attempting to block the release of the independent film, in which Paris plays a version of Jesus who appears to Bella's character.

Riley has kept things low key

"Low key" might occasionally be another way of saying "not yet successful", but that certainly isn't the case for Elvis' granddaughter, Riley.

Born into stardom, the actress has until now focused on edgier films, making appearances in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), American Honey (2016), Logan Lucky (2017), and terrifying religious cult film, The Lodge (2019).

Her breakout role came in 2016 as a law student-turned-escort in the first season of the anthology series The Girlfriend Experience on Netflix. Riley received critical praise for her role, and even earned a Golden Globe Award nomination.

Her big moment in Zola

New film Zola is director Janicza Bravo's summer comedy based on Aziah "Zola" Wells' viral, 148-tweet-long saga from 2015.

In the film, the lead character, a waitress-slash-stripper, meets a fellow exotic dancer played by Riley. They instantly bond and become friends, embarking on a road trip to Florida that fast goes from pole dancing to prostitution, ending up with a hotel room gunfight and an attempted suicide.

Riley, who plays Stefani (Jessica, in real life), told British Vogue: "I've played dancers who work in strip clubs a few times. I've had pole dancing lessons and I've been in that world. I've lived an interesting life, I've met a lot of people and, the thing is, I've met people like Stefani. I've played different versions of what people on Twitter describe as a 'white trash girl'."

We're sorry, this video cannot be played from your current location.
Zola premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020, where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Awards, and was finally released internationally on June 30 this year.

Fortunately, there is a lot more where that comes from. Riley will also star in 2021's The Guilty, with forthcoming film Manodrome and TV series Daisy Jones & The Six's release dates yet to be confirmed.

When you are a female and you have good ideas, it makes men really uncomfortable': Riley Keough on smashing stereotypes, representing sex workers, and taking up space as a woman
When a road trip goes awry

BY JOSH SMITH

In his latest monthly column, Josh Smith Meets…Riley Keough, who is taking us on THE road trip of the summer in new movie Zola. Based on a real life Twitter feed about two women on an ill-fated road trip to pursue careers in pole dancing that then went viral in 2015, the movie is equally set to go viral this summer. Now Riley opens up about exploring sex work for her role, her ‘lifesaving’ sisterhood and how she’s learnt that ‘being sad and things not being great is a part of life.’

Road Trip movies have served us many truly iconic scenes. Thelma and Louise, made Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis household names gave us that car hurtling into the Grand Canyon and Brad Pitt accessorising his abs with a cowboy hat. The Sweetest Thing gave us Cameron Diazdancing around to the catchy song, You’re Too Big to Fit in Here and Girls Trip gave us Tiffany Haddish giving a grapefruit a blow job - educating all of us in the process. But for all the high jinx, those movies have one thing in common: putting the spotlight on the plight of women.

Now 2021’s offering, Zola, continues to provide iconic scenes and push conversations as the big screen adaptation of a viral Twitter feed of 148 tweets from 2015 by a Detroit waitress, Aziah ‘Zola’ Wells discussing a beyond wild - and real - trip to Florida. Just like the feed, the movie follows Zola (Taylour Paige) as she meets a customer, Riley Keough’s Stefani. Stefani, promising Zola they could make a killing pole dancing, invites her on a road trip but later they are joined by Stefani’s boyfriend and a pimp. What starts out as an adventure descends into Zola being entrapped in a circle of murder, prositution, pimps and a gun fight in a hotel room. Not your usual EasyJet girls trip fuelled by a few too many Tequila shots, then!

As I Zoom into Riley’s LA home to discuss the movie, it’s her memories of reading the Twitter feed first-hand that attracted her to playing the outrageous and somewhat unlikable, Stefani. “I remember it so well,” Riley tells me. “There was a reason it went viral. It's totally compelling and you can't put it down and once you start it, no matter what you're doing, you're just totally glued to your phone until the thread's over. Zola’s storytelling is incredible!”

The character of Zola takes on the role of the storyteller in the film, too, narrating throughout, using some of the original tweets, as she realises her customer turned friend is actually a sex worker and there are many jaw dropping ‘oh my god there’s no WAY that happened,’ moments like when Stefani posts a sex ad for clients and Zola steps in to makes it a little extra ‘kinky.’

But aside from the comedic take on some aspects of sex work, the movie takes a very real deep dive into the politics of sexuality and sex work. As Stefani makes money fast, it becomes apparent the real earner is her unnamed pimp and the film rapidly makes critical points about the exploitation of some sex workers and how they become victims of viloent crime. Riley was keen to explore exactly that, after previously playing a part-time call girl in Amazon Prime series, The Girlfriend Experience.

“I feel that it's important to show all kinds of sex work,” she says. “I've played sex workers a few times and I've learned a lot about the world, how vast it is and how many different types of sex work there are - the more stories there are in that field the better! This one is very specific as Zola and Stefani have very different relationships to what's going on. Stefani knows more about what's happening and Zola is forced into a situation she doesn't want to be in so they have very different relationships and dynamics with the sex and the sex work.”

“There's women who, when I did The Girlfriend Experience, are putting themselves through college,” Riley continues, “who find it very empowering and very much enjoy sex work. There are people who are oppressed into sex work. There are so many different relationships that people have to sex work and before I had done these films and shows I had this very simple experience or idea of what I thought sex work was from watching movies growing up and it's not been explored in its entirety yet.”

Alongside Zola’s intense look at sex work, the movie also puts a spotlight on cultural appropriation as Riley’s Stefani immitates African-American speech using a ‘blaccent’ throughout. But director Janicza Bravo - who previously directed a number of short films and TV shows including Amazon Prime’s Them - encouraged Riley to do it and push it to the max.

Was Riley fearful, in a world dominated by cancel culture, of undertaking what could be a very controversial part of the role? “In anybody else's hands, I wouldn't have done this role,” Riley replies straight away. “Janicza is such a genius, she's just so incredible that I felt safe in creating her vision with her. There was a purpose to it but in anybody else's hands, I think I definitely wouldn't have felt comfortable playing the character.”

Although the sisterhood may appear toxic on screen behind the scenes it’s clear from speaking to Riley that female solidarity between the female director and Riley’s co-star, Taylour made the project. “Taylour and I became really close friends and when you meet somebody that you're very similar to, it is a very spiritual experience. It's similar to falling in love, when you see the person and they see you. I had that with Taylour on a very profound level and I really felt that from Janicza.”

The best chick flicks to watch with your gals
How has sisterhood impacted her own life? “Female relationships have been the most important relationships in my life other than my marriage,” Riley answers, referencing her husband actor, Ben Smith-Petersen who she married in 2015. “Sisterhood has been absolutely lifesaving for me. I have an amazing group of girlfriends and there are many times I would have drowned without them and I am really saddened that when you grow up females in general are pitted against each other from, by, I don’t know, watching Cinderella! It’s like, all women have to fight each other to win the man. A lot of the content we were raised watching are women fighting women and fighting each other for men.”

Breaking down outdated stereotypes and sexism has certainly become Riley’s niche in her work having also previously played a woman escaping a warlord in Mad Max: Fury Road, the leader of a teenage drifter gang in American Honey, a getaway driver in Logan Lucky and the only surviving member of a religious cult in The Lodge. And in Zola with Riley’s Stefani seemingly trapped by the stereotype of being the ‘dumb blonde’ and like Zola, she struggles to take agency over her own life. I wonder how her journey towards breaking down stereotypes and taking agency of her own life has been?

“Having agency has been a journey for me,” she sighs. “For a lot of women you're lucky if you are raised in a world or a family where women are allowed to take up space. It's definitely challenging as a female, you get into a room, especially if you're in a working environment, and it's just ‘there’ the way women are treated. But I have found that the more that I take up space, the more that I'm myself and unapologetic about existing and anytime I can feel myself shrinking, I'll try and push back.”

“It's just crazy, as a female, you think so much about just giving your opinion - it's wild,” Riley adds. “I almost would play dumb when I was younger and I'm not dumb at all. I'm very smart. The thing that's actually been difficult is when you are a female and you have good ideas, it makes men really uncomfortable and then you're babying them at the same time like, ‘I might have the solution. I know this is crazy. I'm just a woman,’ and then you baby their ego.”

Whilst Riley's voice and career blazes to new heights, personally, the last year has been difficult for Riley. After Zola initially premiered at Sundance in early 2020 to rave reviews, the world shut down due to COVID-19 and whilst she isolated at home in Los Angeles her bother, Benjamin died by suicide in July last year, aged 27. I ask what she has learned from sitting with herself over the last year?

“I have really learned that being sad and things not being great is a part of life,” Riley replies. “We're also told by Instagram and social media that if we're not getting up, running, drinking our green juice, yoga-ing, hiking, having 20 babies, being happy and wholesome all day long that we're doing it wrong. I think that it's really a sick way to look at life. Life is challenging, life is great, it's difficult and we're in a society where we are told that happiness is the goal. I don't believe that and for me in 2020, that was what I really came to understand in a different way.”

“You're not flawed because you're feeling feelings,” Riley adds. “I noticed for myself personally, that I would often try and do things to make myself feel better. I would meditate to feel better. I would exercise to feel better, because I was afraid of feeling bad and when I learned to sit in the feeling bad and just go, "Okay, what is this? How am I feeling,” it definitely was uncomfortable. I've had anxiety since I was 14, really bad panic attacks - horrible, horrible anxiety - and I would find myself running from it as a kid and in my early 20s and just whatever I can do to not feel that. As I've gotten older, if I feel anxious, I start really sitting in it, just allowing it and not resisting it. That's been a really big one for me but it's not always comfortable.”

But how does she look after her own mental health? “I meditate a lot. I love it. It really helps me and I read a lot. I'm very spiritual. I’ll show you,” she says, reaching for a pile of books on her coffee table. “I'm reading the Bhagavad Gita. This is a great one, too, Be Here Now by Ram Dass,” she Riley continues, picking up another well-read book.

I grew up in the Children Of God 'sex cult', subjected to beatings, abuse and exorcisms. Here's how I escaped – and why I went back
Spirituality is something Riley has always been interested in. “When I was a kid, I remember being in the car with my Dad and just being like, ‘Where do we come from and why are we here? Where do you go when you die?’ From when I was very little I was very, very obsessed with those things. Also my dad was very much this mystic guy and very into numerology, tarot, astronomy and astrology,” she says speaking of her musician father, Danny Keough who when she was five years old split from her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley. Lisa went on to marry Michael Jackson, giving Riley homes in the likes of Graceland and Neverland whilst she used to visit her father, who was by then living in a trailer.

Riley’s next project, the Amazon Prime series, Daisy Jones and the Six, which is based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, follows the rise and fall of a 1970s LA based rock band and sees Riley singing. You might think that given her incredible musical pedigree as the granddaughter of Elvis himself, it might come with a little pressure, but feeling the fear and doing it anyway is clearly Riley’s superpower.

“Something that I've really liked about myself is I don't care about those things,” she exclaims. “If I mess up or if I fail at something, I don't get stuck on it. I just let it go. If I do a bad take of a scene, I'll be like, ‘Sh*t. How do I fix it? How do I do it better?’ If it sucks, it sucks. What am I going to do about it?”

Elvis' granddaughter says watching new biopic 'very intense'

Elvis Presley's granddaughter, Riley Keough, said Friday it was "very intense" watching the new biopic about the rock'n'roll legend, which premieres at the Cannes Film Festival next week.

Keough, known for films like "Logan Lucky" and "American Honey", happened to be at Cannes for her directorial debut "War Pony" just days before the world premiere of "Elvis" by flamboyant Australian director Baz Luhrmann.

She told an audience at the French Riviera festival she saw the film recently with her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, and grandmother, Priscilla Presley.

"It was a very emotional experience," she said.

"There's a lot of family trauma and generational trauma that started around there. It was a very intense experience."

"Elvis", which premieres on Wednesday, stars newcomer Austin Butler in the lead role and Tom Hanks as his infamous manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

Despite the discomfort of seeing her family on screen, Keough said she was "honoured" that it was handled by Luhrmann.

"The first movie I ever watched in a theatre where I knew I wanted to make movies was 'Moulin Rouge!' when I was 12," said Keough.

"That made me emotional and I started crying five minutes in, and didn't stop, so I need to watch it again," said Keough.

The family was involved in helping Luhrmann get access to the Presley home, Graceland, and other people from Elvis's life.

"But at the end of the day, we're not going to tell Baz Luhrmann how to make a film," Keough said.

Riley Keough's Husband Confirms They Have a Daughter During Lisa Marie Presley Memorial Tribute

Riley Keough's husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, revealed the couple welcomed a baby girl while he gave a speech on behalf of his wife during a memorial service for Lisa Marie Presley on Sunday

During a memorial service for Lisa Marie Presley at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, on Sunday morning, the actress' husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, revealed that the pair are parents to a daughter while sharing a tribute on behalf of his wife, who was seated in the front row.

"I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters. Thank you for giving me strength, my heart, my empathy, my courage, my sense of humor, my manners, my temper, my wildness, my tenacity. I'm a product of your heart, my sisters are a product of your heart, my brother is a product of your heart," said Smith-Petersen of his mother-in-law, reading the words of his wife.

Smith-Petersen, who married 33-year-old Keough eight years ago, did not elaborate further on any details, including specifics on when their daughter was born or her name. A rep for Keough confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple welcomed a baby girl in 2022.

Keough, who is the daughter of the late Presley and musician Danny Keough — met Smith-Petersen while filming Mad Max: Fury Road in 2012. The two were briefly introduced on set but didn't start dating until a year later while doing re-shoots in Australia.

"My husband is such a good person," wrote Keough in a 2022 essay for Vogue Australia. "He's calm and loyal and strong and sensitive. He's my best friend."
Keough's romance with the Australian stuntman moved quickly, and the two [url=https://people.com/celebrity/riley-keough-is-engaged-to-ben-smith-petersen/#:~:text=Elvis Presley's granddaughter Riley, the pic with Keough%2C 25.]announced their engagement[/url] in 2014. Smith-Petersen shared a photo on Facebook of Keough wearing a diamond ring at the time and simply captioned it, "So that happened."

BACK TO L.A. WITH BABY GIRL ...
After Lisa Marie's Funeral

Riley Keough is back home in Los Angeles after burying her mother Lisa Marie Presley at Graceland, and she's revealing Lisa's first grandchild -- the daughter very few people knew Riley gave birth to last year.

The actress stepped off a private jet Monday afternoon at Van Nuys Airport, carrying her baby girl in her arms -- marking the first time we've seen her child's face in public.

Riley and her Hollywood stunt man husband, Ben Smith-Petersen, made the surprise reveal about their daughter's existence during Lisa Marie's celebration of life ... when Ben read a letter Riley wrote to her mom, which referenced the little girl.

The letter, which Riley entitled "A Letter to My Mama," reads in part ... "I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and my sisters."

The baby was born in 2022 and her name has not been revealed. Riley's daughter is the first grandchild for Lisa Marie and the first great-grandchild for Elvis and Priscilla.

Riley Keough is staying strong amid the unimaginably difficult loss of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, and the complications that have followed.

On Thursday, a source close to the Daisy Jones & The Six star opened up about how the 33-year-old is doing while she mourns her mother, who died suddenly on January 12 after suffering cardiac arrest. While she processes the devastating loss, the actress has also been pulled into a legal battle against her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, who is contesting her late daughter’s will. A 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s will swapped out the matriarch as a trustee for his kids moving forward, and Priscilla is fighting to make the changes invalid.

Interestingly, the insider seems confident Riley will come out on top, telling Us Weekly:

Related: Lisa Marie’s Half-Brother Speaks Out Amid Growing Family Battle

Interestingly, the insider seems confident Riley will come out on top, telling Us Weekly:

“Riley is taking charge and poised for a huge role in the whole family estate moving forward.”

The Zola lead has also been actively helping to make sure all the other family matters get handled in the meantime, the confidant continued:

“She’s been front and center helping with the funeral arrangements, sitting down with Lisa Marie’s people to handle her will, the custody situation involving [Michael Lockwood], plus taking care of the twins [Harper and Finley, 14] and comforting [grandmother] Priscilla and many others her mom left behind.”

Okay, a lot to unpack there!

First off, we’re surprised (but also relieved) to hear she’s been “comforting” her grandmother despite the latter’s decision to try and oust Riley from the trust! Love to hear she’s taking the higher road and trying to maintain an amicable relationship!

Then there’s the custody battle. As we’ve reported, at the time of the Lights Out singer’s death, she had 60 percent custody of the twins. Under California law, Michael would normally get full custody in a situation like this… unless a judge found him unfit to parent. Or another family member could try to fight for custody, complicating matters.

There have been rumors Lisa Marie’s first husband, Danny Keough (with whom she shared Riley and their late son Benjamin Keough) might try to request custody considering he lived with his ex-wife and the teenagers for a while. Per TMZ insiders, he even considered himself like a stepfather. Additionally, there’s been speculation Riley or Priscilla might try to gain custody, too. The latest TMZ sources believe there won’t be a messy battle since the twins have made it clear to everyone they want to live with their father full-time, and the Presley family reportedly supports the decision so long as they get to keep a relationship with the girls. So, hopefully, with Riley helping, things will be settled as easily as possible, but you just never know until the ink dries on decisions like this!

Meanwhile, Riley has her hands full in another way! She and her husband Ben Smith-Petersen secretly welcomed their first child in 2022, news they announced at Lisa Marie’s memorial late last month. Becoming a new mother at the same time as she’s grieving her own mom has got to be emotional!

Amid all these complex issues, Riley has shown her family just how reliable she can be during a crisis, the insider noted:

“Everyone’s in awe of the strength and courage Riley’s showing, but what’s also evident here is that she’s a born leader who’s balanced, levelheaded and someone the family can count on to make the right big-picture calls. Lisa Marie adored her. She was her rock for years before she died — now it’s even more obvious why, even if it is unbearably tragic.”

Sounds like this is why Lisa Marie wanted Riley in charge of her estate…

We’re so glad to hear Riley’s doing well amid this challenging time, we just hope she has a support system for herself, too. It sounds like she’s taking on a lot right now… Thoughts? Are you surprised she’s comforting Priscilla? Let us know (below)!

Lisa Marie Presley's daughter Riley Keough and husband Ben Smith-Petersen out in LA a month after star's tragic death at 54

Lisa Marie Presley's daughter Riley Keough and her husband Ben Smith-Petersen were seen in Los Angeles on Monday, just a month after the passing of the star at 54

Keough, 33, and Smith-Petersen were seen headed to the upscale grocery story Erewhon on the chilly winter day.

The Santa Monica, California native donned an off-white Ruby Turtleneck Sweater by A.L.C. with blue jeans and black loafers.
Keough, the daughter of the late Lisa Marie and Danny Keough, wore her reddish-brown locks down and parted and carried a black purse on the weekday outing, donning dark sunglasses at one point.
Smith-Petersen was clad in a gray T-shirt with a silver wristwatch and blue jeans, with black Vans Old Skool sneakers.
The Australia-born stuntman was seen sharing a laugh with his spouse and holding her hand on the outing in the City of Angels.
The Terminal List actress was seen after an insider earlier this month told ET Keough was 'disappointed' with her grandmother Priscilla Presley's efforts to challenge the trust left by Lisa Marie Presley following her death.
The Girlfriend Experience actress 'wants to keep the family together and keep Lisa Marie's legacy in a positive light, but she feels that her grandmother's actions are pushing the family apart even more,' the source said.
Amid Keough's feelings that Priscilla was going against Lisa Marie's wishes with her legal challenge, the relationship between Keough and her grandmother was strained.
'It's upsetting to her as she does want to have a relationship with Priscilla, but at this point in time they are not close,' the source told the outlet.

The source noted that Lisa Marie herself had a 'very complicated' relationship with Priscilla that was not particularly 'healthy or close.'

Riley Keough and Sam Claflin Unravel on ‘Daisy Jones & the Six‘ Single ‘Look At Us Now (Honeycomb)’

The song will appear on Aurora, the no longer fictional album from the upcoming adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's novel, out March 3

BY LARISHA PAUL
FEBRUARY 15, 2023

DAISY JONES & the Six, the band author Taylor Jenkins Reid conjured up in her novel of the same name – now being adapted into a series at Prime Video – initially began as two separate entities: Daisy Jones (Riley Keough) on her own and the seventies rock band the Six, led by Billy Dunne (Sam Claflin). On the band’s latest single, “Look At Us Now (Honeycomb),” the two separate pieces strike gold as they merge into one.

Written and produced by Blake Mills with lyrical assistance from Marcus Mumford, the record is one of the few holdovers from Reid’s fictional album Aurora that made it to the official album set for release alongside the series on March 3. In the book, “Honeycomb” is a bonus track on the record that took Daisy Jones & the Six on a massive world tour. But here, “Look At Us Now (Honeycomb)” is a radio-dominating and trajectory-changing hit single.

Mills and Mumford completely flipped the original lyrics penned by Reid. Rounding out the nearly six-minute-long record with high-energy production, the producer introduced a piercing electric guitar solo mid-song. Cutting through Daisy and Billy’s vocals, the band falls into a natural flow for the first time.

Riley Keough looks downcast while out with husband Ben Smith as she SKIPS UK premiere for her TV show amid feud with Priscilla Presley over Lisa Marie will

Riley Keough looked downcast when she was spotted out with her husband Ben Smith running errands in Los Angeles this Thursday.

She skipped that day's UK premiere of her latest TV project amid reports she is no longer on speaking terms with grandmother Priscilla Presley over their ongoing inheritance battle.

Keough told her Instagram followers she had 'FOMO' (fear of missing out) as co-stars Suki Waterhouse and Camila Morrone promoted their Amazon Prime series, Daisy Jones & The Six, without her in London on Thursday.

The 33-year-old is said to be locked in a fierce battle with 77-year-old Priscilla who is upset after being written out of her late daughter Lisa Marie Presley's will.

Keough's absence took many by surprise considering she is the titular star of the series which follows a rock band in the 1970s and their rise in the LA music scene.

No one really thought Riley would be involved in the screen and Q&A, given everything she has been through over recent weeks, but her absence was noticeable as her co-stars discussed scenes involving Daisy,' a guest at the London event told the Daily Mirror

'It felt a little odd that the lead actress wasn't there but Camila was absolutely enchanting during the discussion and wowed the audience with her witty observations and quips.'
Keough and her grandmother are understood to no longer be on speaking terms following the row over Lisa Marie's will.
The late star died suddenly from a cardiac arrest on January 12 aged 54, just two days after she had attended the Golden Globes.

Priscilla, the widow of Elvis Presley, had been named as a trustee of her daughter's estate until 2016 when it was changed to make Keough and her brother Benjamin the sole heirs.

Benjamin died by suicide in 2020 meaning the fortune now belongs to Keough.
Priscilla is contending the 2016 amendment and has questioned the authenticity of her late daughter's signatures on the document.

It is unclear how much money Lisa Marie left as some reports speculate the troubled singer-songwriter squandered the $100 million fortune she inherited following her dad's death in 1977.

Lisa Marie Presley's daughter Riley Keough wears a Graceland sweater as she steps out with husband Ben Smith - amid  feud with Priscilla Presley over her mother's will

Lisa Marie Presley's daughter Riley Keough stepped out for lunch with husband Ben Smith in Calabasas on Tuesday - amid reports she is no longer on speaking terms with grandmother Priscilla Presley over their ongoing inheritance battle.

The actress, 33,  appeared to be sending a message via her wardrobe choice as she paid homage to her famous grandfather Elvis Presley with a Graceland-print sweater, paired with black joggers and trainers.

The star wore her locks swept up from her face and accessorized with some tinted cat-eye shades.
Ben wore a grey tee and stonewash jeans as he accompanied his wife.

Last week Keough skipped the UK premiere of her latest TV project Daisy Jones & The Six amid the ongoing inheritance battle.

Keough told her Instagram followers she had 'FOMO' (fear of missing out) as co-stars Suki Waterhouse and Camila Morrone promoted their Amazon Prime series, Daisy Jones & The Six, without her in London on Thursday.

Riley Keough Makes First Red Carpet Appearance Since Death of Mother Lisa Marie Presley
The actress, accompanied by husband Ben Smith-Petersen, walked the red carpet in Hollywood to promote the world premiere of her Prime Video series 'Daisy Jones & the Six.'

Riley Keough turned up in Hollywood on Thursday night to attend the world premiere of her new Prime Video TV series, Daisy Jones & the Six, marking her first red carpet appearance since the sudden death of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, on Jan. 12. It was quite the scene, too, as the TCL Chinese Theatre was packed with guests dressed to match the ’70s glam dress code while Keough and her co-stars were supported by a producing team that included Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon.

Keough, wearing Schiaparelli Couture and accompanied by husband Ben Smith-Petersen, toplines the series as Daisy Jones, the co-lead singer of a ’70s rock band. Based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & the Six details the rise and precipitous fall of that band, from early days toiling away at small gigs through a meteoric rise that culminates in a sold-out show at Chicago’s Soldier Field. Following that performance, the band shocked fans by calling it quits. Keough stars opposite Sam Claflin, Camila Morrone, Will Harrison, Suki Waterhouse, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon, Nabiyah Be, Tom Wright and Timothy Olyphant, among others.

In a brief interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Keough was upbeat and expressed enthusiasm for being part of the Amazon Studios musical series, going so far as to say that she knew she was going to play Daisy Jones before she read a single page.

“It’s really weird,” explained Keough, flanked by a personal publicist and her stylist Jamie Mizrahi. “I knew that I wanted to play her before I knew what the book was about or had even read the script or anything. I just heard the title and thought, ‘I’m gonna play her.’ I just knew I was gonna play her. It was the same feeling I had when I knew that I was going to marry my husband.”

Daisy Jones asks a lot of Keough as a performer as she’s required to play everything from dramatic moments opposite bandmembers and record executives to epic scenes strutting her stuff across a stadium stage while belting into a microphone. As for how she was able to pull it off, Keough was quick to “give all that credit” to the show’s “wonderful music team” that includes Tony Berg and Blake Mills.

“They were teaching us our songs, and we were in band camp,” explained Keough, whose family tree features one of the greatest American rock stars of all time in Elvis Presley. “They essentially turned us into rock stars.”

Riley Keough Is Living Her Rock Star Dreams, Thanks to Lisa Marie Presley

The actor and granddaughter of Elvis Presley joined producer Reese Witherspoon for the Hollywood premiere of Daisy Jones & the Six, starring Keough as a Stevie Nicks–esque chanteuse.

Reese Witherspoon has stepped into the world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Her latest project as executive producer is Daisy Jones & the Six, a wild musical drama that details the rise and fall of a fictional ’70s rock band. Adapted from the best-selling 2019 novel of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the story centers on the titular band—inspired by Stevie Nicks and her time with Fleetwood Mac—and unfolds docudrama-style, with the band’s members discussing their successes, drug-fueled love affairs, betrayal, and heartache.

“I love that the story reads like a VH1 Behind the Music documentary. It feels so real, and so particular in a time and place,” Witherspoon told Vanity Fair at the Amazon Prime Video series’ world premiere in Hollywood on Thursday night. “Anything was possible in that time—the connection between artists was totally different. It’s really beautiful. And the music is bananas! The music really drives the story, and the chemistry between Riley and Sam is just the best.”

That would be Riley Keough—daughter of the late Lisa Marie Presley and the granddaughter of Elvis Presley—and British actor Sam Claflin, best known as Finnick Odair from the Hunger Games franchise. Keough stars as Daisy, the fiery lead singer who has a complicated relationship with her bandmate, Claflin’s Billy Dunne. Considering Keough’s rock-and-roll pedigree, it’s hard to believe that she had no musical experience or training prior to taking this role.

"I don’t consider myself a singer. My previous experience was singing in the shower. That’s pretty much it,” said Keough on the arrivals carpet prior to the screening. “Everyone keeps on asking me if I was born to play this role because of my family, and honestly, I was born to play every role that I’ve played so far. I took this role because I’ve been wanting to sing, since I had never sung before. I worked really hard and put in a lot of hours for a year and a half. It wasn’t an overnight kind of thing.”

Before her sudden death on January 12, Lisa Marie Presley was proud that her daughter had taken on a musical role. “She was so excited. I was worried, and she really supported me,” said Keough. “There were some really challenging songs, and she helped me focus and believe in myself.”

“She’s very quiet and soft-spoken in real life, and she really transformed herself and brought such rock star energy” to the series, said Witherspoon. “She utterly transforms when she gets on the stage. It’s like watching a butterfly emerge from a chrysalis.”

Claflin, who plays the band’s charismatic singer and lead guitarist, also came to the role without much musical experience. He practiced guitar until his fingers bled, he says—though he had a bit of extra time due to COVID delays, which transformed a rigorous five weeks of musical training into a year and a half.

“This was the most daunting role I have ever played. There was so much to take on musically. I had to play the guitar while singing and learning the stage movement. I also had to speak with an American accent, and lose weight—it was all a challenge, honestly,” said Claflin, who based his stage persona on Bruce Springsteen. “There were many moments I thought, What the hell did I get myself into? It’s still very daunting that people will be judging what I did not only actingwise, but vocally as well.”

Previously, Claflin auditioned for the film adaptations of both Les Misérables and Cats—and never got a callback. “It was a disaster, really. I failed miserably,” he said. But Billy Dunne, who struggles with drug addiction and unexpected fatherhood, is a role that he connected with personally.

“I felt like I really understood my character. We went through a lot of the same issues—not through the addiction side, but the struggle of juggling work and family life. His fear of failure is something that I can relate to,” said Claflin, the father of two children. “He’s human, and I just want to make sure that people understand him.”

Executive producer Lauren Neustadter and her executive producer husband, Scott Neustadter, immediately saw Daisy Jones’s adaptive potential.

“I think the women in this show are remarkably multidimensional, and the relationships are so complex. Even though there’s conflict, there’s always conversation, there’s always thoughtfulness and sensitivity,” said Lauren, who is also the head of film and TV at Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine production company. “I hope viewers will savor the way women treat one another. We often don’t see this on television, and I really hope they love the music.”

The music in the show is original, featuring songwriting contributions from Blake Mills, Phoebe Bridgers, and Marcus Mumford. Each member of the band—the cast includes Suki Waterhouse, Josh Whitehouse, Will Harrison, and Sebastian Chacon—attended a months-long band camp that consisted of one-on-one instruction and group rehearsal. During the pandemic, the actors even practiced performing together over Zoom.

Priscilla Presley, Riley Keough legal battle causing ‘behind-the-scenes drama’ for 2023 Oscars

Agents, handlers, and family friends are scrambling to diffuse tension amid legal battle betweenPriscilla Presley and granddaughter Riley Keough.

According to a source that told the U.S. Sun this week, Priscilla “is leading the team at the 2023 Oscars” for Baz Luhrmann-directed biopic of King of Rock ’n Roll, Elvis Presely.

The source shared, “She has been there the whole process of this film [Elvis] and wants to see it out on the biggest night in Hollywood. Of course, Lisa Marie would have been with her mother for this momentous night, but many are pushing for Riley to be there. That is causing problems and upset.”

Priscilla has currently challenged her eldest granddaughter, Riley Keough, over late daughter Lisa Marie’s will.

The insider added that the Zola actress, 33, is looking to avoid conflict. “Riley wants her mom represented there but at this moment walking down the carpet together is out of the question.”

However, the source divulged that “invitations have been extended to Riley for events before and after the Oscars ceremony.”

Moreover, “friends of the pair have made efforts to diffuse the tension and unite in honour of the film and Elvis, but that is not happening currently.” And this family feud is “causing much behind-the-scenes drama” for agents, handlers, and family friends.

The eldest granddaughter of the legendary singer is still grappling with the loss of her mother, Lisa Marie, who passed away in a sudden cardiac arrest.

“Riley’s emotions are already very up and down dealing with the loss of her mother and fight with her grandmother as well as dealing with PR promotion and raising her baby.”

The Girlfriend Experience actress revealed she welcomed daughter with husband Ben Smith-Petersen during her mother’s funeral service.

Keough and grandmother Priscilla are “not talking” amid a legal battle concerning Lisa Marie’s will.

Following her death in January 2023, it was confirmed that Graceland, the former home of her father, Elvis Presley, would go to her three daughters: Riley, and 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley.

In a shock move, Priscilla filed a petition in Los Angeles in January questioning the “authenticity and validity” of a 2016 amendment to Lisa Marie’s trust, which removed Priscilla as a co-trustee and put Keough in charge.

The court hearing is expected to begin on April 13th, 2023, in Los Angeles.
